Forward-thinking jazz duo brings the colourful beats and vibrant improvisations to ROTTERDAM with the most celebrated Lithuanian jazz musicians Dmitrij Golovanov (piano) and Kęstutis Vaiginis (saxophone). Their brilliant technical proficiency combined with warm showmanship will invite us into the fascinating world of jazz.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

Kęstutis Vaiginis (saxophone) is an initiator and leader of a number of international projects. He revealed his compositional talent while still a student at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Prince Claus Conservatorium, the Amsterdam School of the Arts as well as the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Since then, as a member of various collectives, K. Vaiginis performed his compositions in Lithuania, the Netherlands, Spain, France, the USA, Canada, Japan, China, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Brazil, Georgia and many more. His music style fuses modern jazz and academic music with underlying currents of Latin, be-bop and Afro. Winner of many national and international competitions and recipient of Grand Prix of Birštonas Jazz Festival (2010), Kęstutis is one of the most gifted and productive Lithuanian jazz musicians. The list of his former and current stage partners includes such jazz coryphées as David Kikoski, Ed Howard, Adam Cruz, Randal Corsen, Barbara Dennerlein, Hernan Romero, Bilal Karmaran, Caner Kaptan, Herbie Kopf, Joon Haavisto and many others. As a leader and guest musician of various collectives he appeared in prestigious festivals including North Sea Jazz, London, Tokyo Jazz, Cape Town, Istanbul and Hong Kong. Kęstutis regularly takes part in Lithuanian jazz festivals. His discography amounts four personal albums. His compositions were included in several Lithuanian music collections.

Dmitrij Golovanov (piano) is considered a master pianist of the current, open-minded jazz generation in Lithuania. He has been a member of several influential local and international groups such as Beat Freisen Spelunkenorchester and Herbie Kopf SwiLit. Collaborations include Jeff Cascaro, Jacob Riis, Limor Shapira, Byron Wallen, Eska Mtungwazi and many others. Dmitrij was a winner of important international competitions, including "Vilnius Jazz Young Power 2007" and the International Piano Improvisation Competition in Vilnius (2008). He also was a semi-finalist of the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition in Switzerland (2012) and European Jazz Competition finalists in Rotterdam (2013). He performs various styles of music ranging from traditional to modern-creative, free jazz to classic/jazz crossovers and experimental electronic music. Dmitrij studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy" in Leipzig. He teaches at the Lithuanian Academy for Music and Theatre.
