A WOMAN AND HER FOUR MEN / Moteris ir keturi jos vyrai (1983, 91 min) is a Lithuanian classic, that stood the test of time and avoided ideological and artistic clichés. Celebrating A. Puipa's 70th birthday, we have the opportunity to get better acquainted with his films belonging to the "Golden Fund" of Lithuanian cinema. A Woman and Her Four Men has been recently restored by the Lithuanian Film Centre.

"This film takes us to the region of Lithuania Minor at the turn of the 19th century. However, it is not so much a film based on historical realities, but is rather the reality created by the director himself, with the features of a near-allegory. In this almost iconographic landscape the destinies of the Father, two sons and a widowed Woman are intertwined. Their stories flow slowly and melancholically, gradually sinking into the freshness of the sea, sand, coastal winds. Yet it is as natural as the eternal circle of life, its cyclical nature. Tragic life events are replaced by the joy of the emergence of a new life. And in a remote seaside house, nonetheless there is a Woman – played with extraordinary emotional tension and exceptional plasticity by actress Jūratė Onaitytė – who uninterruptedly loves the four men of the family.", Neringa Kažukauskaitė, film critic.

An epic tale - based on a short story by Danish writer and artist Holger Drachmann (1846 – 1908) is set at the turn of the 19th century, that takes us to the region of Lithuania Minor (or Prussian Lithuania). Life is merciless on the cost of the Curonian Spit, constantly under threat of sandstorms and flood waters. The daily life of an old fisherman and his two sons is disturbed by a woman who stumbles upon them. The sea takes her loved ones. A baby is born, new worries and new hopes arise.

With Jūratė Onaitytė, Antanas Šurna, Vidas Petkevičius, Saulius Balandis, Povilas Gaidys, Valdemaras Jatautis, Kostas Smoriginas.

Awards: Kiev Soviet FF 1984 – Best Actress Award (Jūratė Onaitytė), Best Production Design.
